Purpose: Use Bridges Program funds to provide grant opportunities to school districts for the provision of intervention and remediation programs to students beyond required student-teacher contact hours, including summer school and extended day programs. Process: Districts apply for funds to operate K-12 Summer School and school year Extended Day programs for students needing intervention and/or remediation. Formula grants are awarded based on a proxy of at-risk students. Costs are reimbursed up to grant total. Districts are encouraged to provide hands-on and enriched activities to enhance student learning. Teachers must be certified. A 5-year study is in progress to evaluate program effectiveness using data from the Measurement of Academic Progress (MAP) test. 2 contractors (Ruth Sommers and Mike Flicek) provide program management and data analysis.
